Crystal Shapes

Uses and Meanings

Using crystals for their spiritual and healing properties can be fun but can sometimes become overwhelming in their different types and shapes.

Not only do crystals come in every colour of the rainbow and serve different intended purposes, they are also found in many different shape formations. Newbies may think the way a stone is cut or shaped is purely aesthetic, but there's a little more to it than meets the eye. Just as the colour's convey unique meanings, crystal shapes also matter. And while experts say that the structure of a crystal doesn’t change the type of energy it emits, the shape DOES affect the way you receive said energy.

Knowing which shape does what can help you amplify your crystal experience, based on the mood you’re in. Need to focus? Use a crystal point. Looking for some stability? Go for the grounding essence of a cube.

Crystal shapes matter. Here's what they mean and how to amplify their power.

Tumbled stones are a great place to start your crystal adventure. Some may call them basic, but I call them practical. For a small amount of money anyone can start a collection, from small children to adults. Tumble stones are as packed and powerful as the larger crystals. They are the most common cut and polished shape of crystal out there. Small chunks of stone are tumble polished to give them a smooth and shiny surface. But don’t be fooled by their size—these travel-friendly stones are indeed powerful. You can easily carry them around in your pocket or wallet, or even tuck them inside your bra to help you connect with the energy all day long. Having one so close, maybe even touching you directly, can act as a reminder of your intention.

Pyramids have four triangular sides and a square base. Pyramids can both anchor and direct energies.Their strong base acts as an anchor for your intention and the apex of the pyramid sends that intention out into the universe. Pyramids are brilliant tools for both manifesting and amplifying energy and can take you to the next level... This sacred shape has been used by many ancient civilisations, perhaps none more famously than the ancient Egyptians. They believed that pyramids symbolised the rays of the Sun.

Spheres are cut and polished to be perfectly round. Spheres radiate energy smoothly and evenly in all directions. The perfect symmetry of a sphere brings balance, peace, and relaxing energies. They can provide a deep sense of wholeness, as if you hold the world in the palm of your hand. They unite all parts of your being and connect you with the energy of your surroundings. They also double as a smooth massager.s to relax any tense muscles!

Hearts represent love and connect with the energy of our heart chakra.  A heart crystal can be placed over this chakra in healing work. Focus your energy and attention on your heart and imagine it filling with pure loving light. Crystal hearts are powerful allies in helping to attract love from others, as well as nourishing yourself with love from within. Heart-shaped crystals are not naturally occurring; they’re cut and polished into this shape, but they still radiate a strong love energy. “

Crystal points are one of the most commonly used and beneficial shapes to work with, points keeps you sharp and on point. A point is the best tool when you want to stay focused.

The most popular of 'point' crystals would have to be a generator. Generators are crystal with a large point, with six equal sides and six equal faces that lead to that point. There are also Obelisks; An Obelisk crystal is a tapering stone pillar, typically having a square or rectangular cross-section, set up as a monument or landmark. A double terminated point channels energy in two directions at once and provides a bridge between two energy points.   Points are powerful manifestation tools, as they help to manifest your dreams, wishes, and intentions at a much faster rate by directing your intention up into the universe.

Cubes are associated with the root chakra, which connects you with the physical. Meditating with cube shaped crystals can help to ground your energy and reconnect you with the powerful energy of the earth. You can also place them in each corner of a room to seal, protect and ground the space from negative outside energies.

Crystal clusters, or geode, is a cluster of crystal points in their natural form. A cluster occurs when a number of points form together on a matrix. Due to the convergence of multiple crystal points, a cluster vibrates at a high  energy. Crystal clusters enhance harmony and peace, radiate divine energy out to the environment and absorb negative energies. Try placing a cluster in a communal space as they can help create a united space of open dialogue and community

Eggs symbolize new beginnings. Just picture how a tiny chick hatched out of its shell to start a new life on earth to understand this symbolism. Crystal healers believe that egg-shaped crystals are a powerful tool for people who desire to start a fresh new chapter in life. They bring smoothen transitions and complete transformations - eggs can symbolize rebirth !

Worry stones are smooth, polished stones, in the shape of an oval and can have a thumb-sized indentation, used for relaxation or anxiety relief. Use your worry stone and feel those worries melt away. The action of moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone is very effective at taking your mind off whatever is troubling you.

I hope this gives you an understanding and perhaps why you're drawn to a certain shape, or how you can utilise a shape in the future.
